One of the goals of the Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation is to teach kids where their food comes from. In 2012, the Heritage Foundation will promote agriculture literacy on the Monterey Peninsula. It currently supports School Tour Day during the annual county fair-more than 600 students visit the fair and learn about local agriculture. But with additional funding, the Heritage Foundation can bus in an additional 500 school children to the fair and provide teachers with curriculum and $100 in books related to ag literacy. Kids will become more aware of how and where their food is grown, and this educational experience can also encourage health, nutrition and fitness. If we start kids early and they'll retain these lessons into adolescence and beyond.
The Monterey County Fair Heritage Foundation is also dedicated to supporting the functions of the Monterey County Fair including maintaining a beautiful 22-acre oak-studded site where the community comes together to enjoy wonderful experiences, including festivals, concerts, weddings, picnics, meetings and more. The Monterey County Fairgrounds is also an important contributor to the economic well-being of Monterey County and has a multi-million dollar impact.
