74TH ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE FUN FOOD FARE & BEVERAGES AT THE FAIR SEPTEMBER 1-6, 2010

Yes! There will be plenty of fun food fare at the Fair this year. The 74th Annual Monterey County Fair, which will be held September 1-6, 2010, will feature a wide array of delicious food fare, special contests and free tastings this year.  The Fair theme this year, “The Fair is in the Air” celebrates the wonderful sights, sounds, smells and tastes during this fabulous community event.

New this year, McDonald’s brings free tastes of its delicious new Frappé drinks that are cool and refreshing on Saturday and Sunday, September 4th and 5th. There will also be specially priced tequila drinks from Corralejo Tequila bars throughout the bars at the Fairgrounds, including in the relaxing sanctuary of the Dive Bar patio and Monterey Bay Race Place, for those ages 21 and up!

The popular Monterey County Fair Cake Eating Contest returns on Military Day, Friday, September 3rd at 4:00 PM at the Community Stage featuring two rounds of cake eating youth contestants from the Kids’ Club competing to devour scrumptious legendary cakes from Rosine’s Restaurant in Monterey. 

New this year is Picnic Day on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th and the first 200 Fair entrants will receive a Fair blanket. There will also be the first ever Monterey County Fair Ice Cream Eating Contest on Monday, Labor Day, September 6th at 2:00 PM at the Community Stage when two rounds of ice cream eating youth contestants will compete to consume delicious ice cream from The Ice Cream Shoppe/Beatles & Rock Museum in Pacific Grove.

Fair attendees should stop by the Home Arts Building daily to purchase special treats such as home-baked pies, cakes and cookies. The Ag Building also features fabulous fresh, locally grown produce Fairgoers can purchase.

 The “Taste of the Vine” Wine Tasting event will be held on Thursday, September 2nd from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Turf Club featuring award winning wines from the Central Coast Wine Competition.  Pre-sale tickets may be purchased on our website or in our Administration Office for $20 and includes fair admission.  Tickets will also be sold at the door for $20 the evening of the event. There will be also be a full bar at the “Dive Bar” in the Turf Club patio for 21 and over from Noon to 10:00 PM daily.     

There will be several healthier and delicious new food fare options for Fair patrons this year that include:

Colossal Gelato with Italian gelato (milk based), Gelato Sorbet (water based) and Sugar Free Gelato sold in the cup, waffle cone and “Gelato to Go” cartons.

Tea.Zing with hot or iced tea available in a variety of flavors such as earl grey tea, ginger peach, Moroccan mint and many more. Fairgoers can add tapioca pearls or lychee jelly.  Infused milk tea, iced tea and slush tea with a variety of infusion flavors such as chai latte, honeydew, strawberry, and taro. They also have mocha ice cream in a variety of flavors including chocolate espresso, raspberry white chocolate chip, mango and green tea.

Brooklyn Deli will be serving a variety of fresh sandwiches (hot and cold), soups and salads, as well as breakfast muffins with hash browns along with some dessert options including carrot cake, cheesecake and cookies.
 
And, all of this is in addition to the traditional delicious Fair food favorites, including corn dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, corn on the cob, funnel cake, caramel apples, kettle korn, and much, much more! 

The Monterey County Fairgrounds is a premiere event center set on 22 oak-studded acres with ample parking. It is home of the annual Monterey County Fair, host to many major and private events on the Central Coast, and the site of the Monterey Bay Race Place, a Satellite Wagering Facility. The Monterey County Fair is the 7th District Agricultural Association of the State of California.
