The patron of the Monterey Bay Race Place made a small $2 bet on a Pick 6 wager, and got a BIG payoff. The wager paid out a sum of $250,987.20. A pick 6 wager is a type of wager offered by horse racing tracks. It requires bettors to select the winners of six consecutive races. Because of the great difficulty in picking six straight winners, plus the number of betting interests involved, payoffs for successful wagers are quite high, sometimes in the millions of dollars. The wager is conducted in parimutuel fashion; with all pick 6 bets going into a separate pool from other kinds of betting. The pick 6 wager actually has two payoffs, one for bettors who pick all six winners, and a smaller payoff for those who pick five out of six. The total pick 6 betting pool is divided by percentage between the two payouts, along the lines of 75% for the six-winner pool and 25% for the five-winner pool. Here's how to play: 1) Select the horse you think will win each race. You can select more than one in each race but this will increase the amount of your wager. 2) Go to the betting window and tell the clerk which track and race you wish to bet on. 3) If you only selected one horse per race, tell the clerk '$1.00 Pick 6: 1 with 2 with 3 with 4 with 5 with 6' (or whichever horses you selected). The minimum wager may be $2 at some tracks. 4) If you selected more than one horse in some races, tell the clerk '$1.00 Pick 6 wheel: 1 with 1, 2 with 1, 2 with 4 with 5 with 5, 6' (or whichever horses you selected). 5) Make sure your ticket is correct before you leave the window. 6) Take your ticket, then watch and cheer for your selections. Tips: 1) The more horses you pick in each race, the better chance you have of cashing your ticket, but your ticket will also be more expensive. 2) You determine the cost of your wager by multiplying the number of horses in each race together then by the amount wagered. For example: 1 x 2 x 2 x 1 x 2 x 1 x $1 = $8. 3) The minimum wager on a Pick 6 is usually $1 or $2. Ask the clerk for the minimum amount at your track. You can wager a larger amount if you like. Check out the Monterey Bay Race Place for your chance to win big. Play the Ponies Wednesday through Monday beginning at 11 AM. 7/25/08 Ride MST For Free to the Monterey County Fair Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) will offer free bus service on all routes August 12-17, 2008 to Monterey County Fair ticket holders. The collection will provide residents with an opportunity to safely unload their old computers, television sets, monitors and other out-dated, unusable or unwanted electronic items for proper recycling from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. It is illegal to simply throw an old television or computer monitor in the trash in the state of California. Electronic items have toxic elements like lead and mercury in them that are environmentally hazardous when they are dumped into landfills. By law, such products must now be recycled properly and in ways that won’t harm the environment. In an attempt to help residents and the environment, the Monterey County Fair has become proactive in its efforts to collect electronic waste. The electronics collected will then be trucked away and recycled by Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers, the largest recycler of electronic waste in California and the Fair’s partner for this event. The collection is designed to provide local businesses and schools with an easy way to get rid of their old electronics. “We’re extremely proud to be partnering with the historic Monterey County Fair for this special program,” said John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers. “The Monterey County Fair is helping residents become more environmentally responsible by offering them a convenient opportunity to safely dispose of their old electronics.” Each year in California, hundreds of thousands of computers, copiers, fax machines, printers, televisions and other electronic items are replaced by WHERE: The Monterey County Fair, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, Monterey, CA WHEN: Saturday, June 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CONTACTS: For more information please call the fair office at 831-372-5863 6/5/08 Jessica Simpson & Randy Travis Added To The 2008 Concert Lineup Monterey, CA - Monterey County Fair along with David Drew Productions is excited to announce Jessica Simpson and Randy Travis are set to perform at the 2008 Monterey County Fair.
