MARCH HARE AT THE FAIR DANCE PARTY” WITH MIKE BECK & THE BOHEMIAN SAINTS” AT THE TURF CLUB AT THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS ON FRIDAY, MARCH 5, 2010
February 8, 2010, A special “March Hare at the Fair Dance Party with Mike Beck & The Bohemian Saints” will be held on Friday, March 5th at 8:00 PM at the beautiful Turf Club at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairgrounds Road, in Monterey. The event will feature a no-host bar and appetizers. The cost is $8 per person in advance and $10 per person at the door, $5 with military ID. Open to age 21+. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Monterey County Fair office at the corner of Garden Road and Fairground Road.
To the surprise of the event organizers who planned the March Hare theme months ago since the party is in the month of March, the new Disney “Alice in Wonderland” film with actor Johnny Depp will be released March 5th, the same day as the event at the Turf Club. The characters and images of the beloved Alice in Wonderland story will be celebrated at the upcoming “March Hare at the Fair Dance Party”.
Mike Beck and The Bohemian Saints (mikebeck.com) is an irresistible old fashioned guitar band, comprised of respected guitarist and songwriter, Mike Beck, and San Francisco Bay Area guitarist, Tom Ayres, backed up on bass by Marty Lydon, and on drums by Paul Montgomery. The band has played together since 2002, and no matter where the band performs, their large devoted fan base follows.
Mike Beck is a popular solo acoustic singer songwriter who lives in Montana and California. He has performed in over six countries, and throughout the United States, and just returned some shows in from Norway and Sweden. Mike is known for his memorable ballads that capture old California, our world today, and the cowboy way of life. Two of Mike Beck’s songs were listed in the “13 Best Cowboy Songs of All Time” in the April 2009 issue of Western Horseman Magazine (“In Old California” – a song about Jo Mora - and “Don’t Tell Me.”) His song, “Patrick” was listed as one of “The Top 15 Roadworthy Cowboy Songs” in the July 2008 issue of Cowboys & Indians Magazine. His song, “Amanda Come Home” was featured on NPR’s Weekend Edition, and is dedicated to all of the women who served in Iraq.
The band was recently featured at the 2009 Monterey County Fair. Their music is frequently aired on all five of the popular California KPIG Radio stations (www.kpig.com) throughout California (including Monterey/Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Chico and the San Francisco Bay Area) and via the station's popular Internet site. The music of Mike Beck and The Bohemian Saints has also been heard throughout the United States and internationally, including NPR Radio, CBC, Sirius and the BBC, among others. Their enjoyable original material, primarily composed by Mike Beck, reflects the band's love of the Byrds, Burrito Brothers and the Rolling Stones. Their popular onstage live shows reflect the energy of the Grateful Dead. The band's top professional musicians provide outstanding shows in bars, coffeehouses, folk clubs, schools, festivals, and at corporate events.
Born and raised in Monterey County, California, at age 13, Mike Beck went to the Monterey Pop Festival and liked what he heard. He picked up a guitar and never looked back. Since that time, he has been composing and performing a wide array of folk, rock and Americana music. Mike's songs reflect his life as a professional musician and a working cowboy in Montana and Carmel Valley near Big Sur. According to Ramblin' Jack Elliot, "Mike Beck plays the guitar like a Byrd. His strings do things that mine could never do. They obey the slightest finger-touch commands like a fine Reining Horse."

MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR WINS FIVE PRESTIGIOUS 2009 INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FAIRS AND EXPOSITIONS AWARDS
December, 2009. MONTEREY, CA – The Monterey County Fair has announced that it recently won five prestigious awards in Las Vegas at the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) Annual Awards ceremony. Each year, the IAFE conducts contests for its fair members, which recognize and reward excellence. All contests are judged by IAFE member representatives and professionals from respective fields.
The awards for the Monterey County Fair included a 1st place Agriculture Award for the Open 4-H and FFA Division, and a 2nd place Award for the new Monterey Bay Classic, a Commercial Agriculture Exhibitor Recognition Division. The Monterey Bay Classic is a new Jackpot Livestock Show for youths held at another time other than during Fairtime, and this award-winning special event received an outstanding response in 2009. The next Jackpot Livestock Show will be held March 26-27, 2010 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
The Fair also received three Communication Awards, including a 2nd place award for the poster of the very popular corndog with the mustard smiley face, “Supercornifragilisticexpialidogcious” (2nd place), a 2nd place award for its folded Fair program, as well as a 3rd place award for its exhibit program ad in Central Coast Parent Magazine.

KIDFEST TO BE HELD ON OCTOBER 10TH AND 11TH AT THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

DO YOU HAVE A TALENTED WATER-LOVING DOG? SPLASH DOGS COMES TO THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR THIS YEAR!
July, 2009, Monterey, CA. Do you have a water-loving dog? The Monterey County Fair is pleased to announce that Splash Dogs are coming to the Fair this year! Splash Dogs is an organization that promotes dock-jumping events across that United States. Their goal is to create a competitive fun family-oriented atmosphere. They will be at the fair all week, located in the Pattee Arena. Splash Dogs is fun for the whole family!
The community is invited to come to the Fair and watch but they are also invited to enter their own dogs to compete in the contests.
All water loving dogs and their owners are invited to join in for competition in the high flying canine sport of dock jumping! The Splash Dogs competition will conclude as the top 24 teams return on Sunday afternoon for the Open and Pro Finals. Newcomers are always welcome and assistance in getting new dogs started is available. Competition: $20, Open Practice: $10 (as time permits between competition waves). 73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE GREAT FOOD FARE & BEVERAGES DURING FAIR WEEK AUGUST 12-16, 2009
July, 2009, Monterey, CA. The 73rd Annual Monterey County Fair, which will be held August 12-16, 2009, is featuring a wide array of great food fare, special contests and free tastings this year. To complement the theme of “Reel in the Fun,” each night between 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Flaherty’s Seafood Grill and Oyster Bar will provide delicious free clam chowder samples while supplies last during a special Chowder Hour. On Sunday, August 16, 2009 between 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM during Fiesta Day, Tequila Correlejo will provide free tequila tastings at the Turf Club patio for 21 and under while supplies last.
There will be two great contests for the kids which include the Kids’ Club Salad Eating Contest on August 12, 2009 during the Kids’ Club Beach Party at the Turf Club from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM. The popular Monterey County Fair Cake Eating Contest returns on Friday, August 14th at 4:00 PM at the Community Stage featuring two rounds of cake eating youth contestants from the Kids’ Club competing to devour scrumptious cakes from Rosine’s Restaurant in Monterey. On Military Day, Thursday, August 13th, there will delicious cake provided by Rosine’s Restaurant during the Flag Raising Ceremony at 11:30 AM at Gate 3 of the Fairgrounds.

The “Taste of the Vine” Wine Tasting event and Monterey Peninsula Chamber mixer will be held on Thursday, August 13th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Turf Club Patio ($10 Chamber members, $20 general public) featuring top gold medal wines. There will be microbrews and wine tasting at the “Dive Bar” in the Turf Club patio for 21 and over from Noon to 10:00 PM daily. This year, there will be water available that is bottled in non-plastic, bio-degradable bottles made from plants, not oil, available from Nature’s Bottles.
And, all of this is in addition to the traditional delicious Fair food favorites, including corn dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, chili, corn on the cob, funnel cake, caramel apples, deep fried twinkies, and much, much more!

73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO HOLD 5TH ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY TASTE OF THE VINE WINE TASTING EVENT
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – Monterey County will bring some of its best wines together for the Monterey County Fair’s Taste of the Vine 5th Annual Wine Challenge. The event, which was created to celebrate the diversity and the world-class quality of varietals, wineries and vineyards that make Monterey County a premier wine destination, will be held on Thursday, August 13th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Turf Club, during the Fair, at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
Advance tickets are $20 each and include Fair Admission. Tickets, which include transportation courtesy of Monterey-Salinas Transit, may be purchased at the Monterey County Fair office through August 11th or buy your ticket at the door on August 13th, once you’re in the Fair, for $20. Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Members can buy tickets for $10 through the MPCC website or office. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample all of the gold medal and Best of Show wines and vote for their favorites. The Peoples’ Choice winning wines will be unveiled the night of the event. Raffle prizes will be awarded to those in attendance that night.
The wines featured at the Wine Tasting Event were selected by a panel of esteemed judges at a blind tasting on July 21. Each wine was judged during this private tasting event and the gold medal wines will go on to the Wine Tasting Event at the Fair, where the public will choose their favorite wines and enjoy food and fair festivities.
The Wine Challenge showcases the best of Monterey County, San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz County wines and helps consumers gauge Monterey County wines by designating winners as gold, silver or bronze medalists. During the fair, all wines will be showcased on display in the Oak Pavilion. “It is a privilege to provide the local winemaking community a venue to showcase their wines and talents to our 65,000 annual patrons,” said Monterey County fair CEO, Kelly Baldwin.

SPECIAL WATER AWARENESS DAY TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 15TH AT THE 73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – A special Water Awareness Day will be held on Saturday, August 15th at the Monterey County Fair. The event is sponsored by the Water Awareness Committee of Monterey County, Inc. and features a fun Water Awareness Passport event where Fair attendees are invited to visit special Water Adventure Travel Destination Booths in the Horticulture Area next to the Payton Garden Stage. If they complete seven educational activities, and obtain stamps on their Water Awareness Passports, they receive a prize and are entered into a free drawing to win one of several grand prizes. Grand prizes include two high efficiency clothes washers and a smart irrigation controller: Bosch washer by Built-In Distributors; Frigidaire washer by California Water Service Company, and a Weathermatic Smartline Irrigation Controller and Weather Monitor by Hydro Turf, Inc.

73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE SPECIAL SENIORS’ FAIR
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – The 73rd Annual Monterey County Fair will be held Wednesday, August 12th through Sunday, August 16th at the Monterey County Fairgrounds and a special Seniors’ Fair will be held on Seniors’ Day, August 13th. The special event will be held at the Turf Club from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 13th and all seniors ages 65 and above are invited to come and enjoy free coffee and donuts as part of their Fair experience at only $3 per person specially priced admission. At the Seniors Fair within the Fair, the Carmel Host Lions will sponsor a Vision Testing Booth, and there will be many special educational exhibits by local organizations including Choice Home Health Care, Compass Group, Healthy Way, Hospice of the Central Coast/CHOMP, Shirley Kiatta, RN, Elder Care, Lynn Lozier, Attorney at Law, Natural Holistic Wellness Center, Villa Serra and more. The Fair will be open until 10:00 PM that night.
There will also be great entertainment on the Payton Garden Stage, including a performance by members of the Monterey Symphony plus the Monterey All Star Band, and seniors can also ride the carousel and Century Wheel free on any Fair Day. In addition, seniors can ride free with a grandchild in the kiddy carnival until 8:00 PM. They can also round out their Fair Day at the Monterey Bay Race Place betting on races with special handicap seminars and refreshments.

73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE MILITARY DAY ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 14TH
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – The 73rd Annual Monterey County Fair will be held Wednesday, August 12th through Sunday, August 16th at the Monterey County Fairgrounds and a special Military Day will be held on Friday, August 14th. There will be free admission all day for all active duty military plus their dependents with military ID. Free parking will be available at Monterey Peninsula Collage with transportation to and from the Fair by showing a pre-sale admission ticket. Carnival wristbands will be available at the MWR office on base. Special Carnival Pay One Price Wristbands will be available for $10 each, and wristbands for up to 4 people, can be purchased directly from the Carnival only on August 14th.
There will also be Opening Ceremonies at 11:30 AM with a Flag Raising Ceremony and complimentary cake from Rosine’s Restaurant at Gate 3, and the Fair will open to the community at Noon. Rabobank, Americraft and the Monterey County Fair are sponsoring Military Appreciation Day at the Fair.
The community is invited to show their support for our troops, and they will receive one (1) ticket for entry to the Fair on August 14th for every three (3) items from the following list that they bring into their Rabobank branch prior to August 13th, including cards and letters of support, beef jerky, black work socks, gum, popcorn, Crystal Light, hard candy, playing cards, cocoa, AA Batteries,. travel-size toothpaste, travel-type toothbrushes, travel-sized Gold Bond powder, travel-size solid deodorant, travel-size toilet paper, and travel-size shampoo. PLEASE NO AEROSOLS. This limited time offer ends August 13, 2009, and while ticket supplies last at participating Rabobank locations. Tickets are only good for entry to the Monterey County Fair on August 14, 2009, and are limited to 4 tickets per customer.

73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR TO FEATURE SPECIAL MARITIME HALL THAT HONORS THE LEGACY OF MONTEREY’S FISHING INDUSTRY & MORE
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – The 73rd Annual Monterey County Fair will be held Wednesday, August 12th through Sunday, August 16th at the Monterey County Fairgrounds and the special theme this year is “Reel in the Fun.” In honor of this year’s Fair theme, the Monterey Maritime and History Museum, operated by the Monterey History and Art Association, will be part of a very special not-to-be-missed educational exhibit 2000 square foot building located near the Payton Garden Stage, The Maritime Hall, that will feature a myriad of interesting displays all week during the Monterey County Fair.
The interactive exhibits will honor the history and current operations of the fishing industry in our region as well as many ocean organizations, and will feature interesting artifacts, paintings, activities, videos, and much more. Participating organizations with entertaining and educational displays in The Maritime Hall include the American Cetacean Society, Faces of Fishermen, IMAX, Monterey Maritime and History Museum, Monterey Abalone Company, Monterey Bay Sanctuary, Monterey Harbor District, Monterey Yacht Club, Moss Landing Harbor District, People United For American Commercial Fisheries, Randy’s Fishing & Whaling Trips, Save the Whales, Sea Studios Foundation, and more.

The Monterey Maritime and History Museum is located at 5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey. The Monterey History and Art Association (montereyhistory.org), which operates the Monterey Maritime and History Museum, Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library, Casa Serrano, the Perry-Downer Carriage House, and Doud House, is the oldest cultural institution on the Monterey Peninsula. SPECIAL CARNIVAL IS COMING TO THE 73RD ANNUAL MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR
July, 2009, Monterey, CA – Come join in the fun and “Reel in the Fun” at the Monterey County Fair, August 12th through August 16th. Helm and Sons Amusements will offer a special stellar line-up of action packed rides this year.

LEARN HOW TO BE A BUYER AT THE FAIR’S JUNIOR LIVESTOCK AUCTION: MONTEREY PENINSULA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TO HOLD SPECIAL MIXER AT MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR ON JUNE 30, 2009

The Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will hold a special mixer at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, located at 2004 Fairground Road, on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The cost is $10 for Chamber members, and $20 for prospective members. Attendees will learn how to be a buyer at the Monterey County Fair’s Junior Livestock auction that takes place during Fair week in August. Show off your talents and enter the Monterey County Fair – It’s easy as pie!
Have you ever been to the Monterey County Fair and wondered how you can win a blue ribbon for your homemade cake or pie? Now, it is ‘easy as pie’! Starting June 1st, the Entry Guide Books that explain the complete ins-and-outs of exhibiting at the Monterey County Fair will be available ONLINE at www.monterycountyfair.com, as well as at local libraries and craft stores throughout the county, making it easier than ever to show your wares at the fair.
The Entry Guide Books have full explanations of all of the classes, categories, rules and recommendations of items that can be entered in the 2009 Monterey County Fair. In addition to finding the Entry Guide Books online at www.montereycountyfair.com, and at the local libraries, Entry Guide Books will also be available at the fair administration office, located at 2004 Fairgrounds Road in Monterey.
The due date for online entries is Monday, July 20th, while paper entry forms are due Friday, July 10th for most divisions.

TWO LOCAL MEN WIN THE CALIFORNIA QUALIFYING ROUND OF THE NATIONAL HARNESS HANDICAPPING CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE MONTEREY BAY RACE PLACE AT THE MONTEREY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS
Two patrons of the Monterey Bay Race Place at the Monterey County Fairgrounds recently won the California qualifying round from Cal Expo Harness Racing to participate in the 5th Annual 2009 National Harness Handicapping Championship at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Ki Park and another gentleman won round trip airfare, hotel rooms, rental car reimbursement, a $400 entry fee and a $400 contest bankroll, invitations to a cocktail reception on April 24th and dinner buffet on April 25th at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
They were eligible to win part of a guaranteed total prize pool of $50,000 for the top 10 winners, with a maximum of 200 entries. Contestants earned a spot in the championship by qualifying through a satellite tournament at a participating partner outlet that includes the Monterey Bay Race Place at the Monterey County Fairgrounds.
At Meadowlands Racetrack on April 25th, the two contestants bet 10 races that included a combination of mandatory races plus player’s choice of Meadowlands races, with a $40 minimum bet per race and a $100 maximum bet per race, with a maximum of one horse per race. SCOTT WESTMORELAND IS ANNOUNCED AS FEATURED ARTIST OF THE 2009 MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR
Monterey, CA. Scott Westmoreland has again joined forces with the Monterey County Fair to develop the visual identity to compliment the 2009 Fair theme, ‘Reel in the Fun.” Westmoreland is a renowned artist, and is well-known for his surf, ocean, and woodie car-themed work.
Scott began his career as an illustrator in the entertainment industry as an artist for major theatrical productions nationwide, including the Broadway stage. Scott has also worked with the Walt Disney Company and MCA Universal, later becoming a full-time Staff artist at Disney. Scott created numerous marketing, merchandising and collector edition pieces for Disney, as well as countless conceptual and developmental campaigns for Michael Eisner. Scott later rejoined the freelance world and is known as a "top 100" seller on Art.com. Westmoreland has been featured by television shows like Fox's "Trading Spouses", ABC Family's "Knock First", and in publications like "Decor" and "Total Art Licensing".
Scott’s ocean expertise made for a perfect fit for the 2009 Monterey County Fair artist. Westmoreland created a classic Monterey Bay scene of a fishing boat and a fish that is being reeled in, with the Monterey County Fair depicted onshore. Westmoreland comments as saying, “I was so pleased that the Monterey County Fair asked me to return to paint the image for their annual event this year. It gave me another excuse to create a scene of the beautiful Monterey Bay and to honor the important legacy of the fishing industry in this region.”
Westmoreland’s Monterey County Fair art will be featured through the course of the 2009 Fair as the Fairs’ graphic identity. Scott’s Monterey County Fair art will be seen as the 2009 poster and shown in all of the merchandise including T-shirts, sweatshirts and souvenirs.

MONTEREY COUNTY FAIR ERECTS STONE TO COMMEMORATE FORMER MONTEREY COUNTY SUPERVISOR JERRY SMITH
April, 2009. Monterey, CA. A beautiful commemorative stone has been placed at the front of the Monterey County Fairgrounds adjacent to an oak tree that was planted to honor the community work of former community leader, Monterey County Supervisor Jerry Smith, who passed away in 2007. Supervisor Jerry was also the former Mayor of the City of Seaside.
According to Kelly Baldwin, CEO of the Monterey County Fairgrounds, “Supervisor Jerry Smith was an active supporter and friend of the Monterey County Fair Board, and as a man who dedicated his life to public service in Monterey County. We wanted to memorialize his tremendous contribution to our region and have erected a stone in his memory at the front of the Monterey County Fairgrounds.”
In 1998, Jerry won his first of three terms as Mayor of Seaside. Under his leadership, the City of Seaside started its rebirth following the 1993 closure of the adjacent Fort Ord Army base. Jerry and his wife, Byrl were very proud that in 2004 Jerry became the first African American elected to the Monterey County Board of Supervisors to represent the Fourth District. In his capacity as County Supervisor, Jerry served on numerous Committees and Boards, including the Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District (MBUAPCD), the Monterey County Voting Rights Committee, the Fort Ord Reuse Authority (FORA), Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), the California Association of Local Agency Formation Commissions (CALAFCO), the Monterey Regional Waste Management District (MRWMD), the Transportation Agency of Monterey County (TAMC), the Association of Bay Area Governments (AMBAG), Central Coast Alliance for Health (CCAH), the Children's Council of Monterey County, the Monterey County Mental Health Commission, the Rancho Cielo Board, and many others. While in county office, Jerry played an instrumental role in negotiations that culminated in the Intergovernmental Transfer and Grant Agreement between Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and Natividad Medical Center. The agreement facilitated a grant and created a working partnership between all three hospitals and resulted in a dramatic turnaround of hospital operations. Jerry chaired the Natividad Medical Center Board of Trustees whose oversight was critical in the reengineering efforts at the hospital, ultimately sparking the financial turnaround for our safety net hospital.

The Monterey County Fair Invites the Community to Recycle Their Electronic Waste
On Sunday, February 22nd, the Monterey County Fair will be holding a free electronic waste collection event. The collection will provide residents with an opportunity to safely unload their old computers, television sets, monitors and other out-dated, unusable or unwanted electronic items for proper recycling from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
It is illegal to simply throw an old television or computer monitor in the trash in the state of California. Electronic items have toxic elements like lead and mercury in them that are environmentally hazardous when they are dumped into landfills. By law, such products must now be recycled properly and in ways that won’t harm the environment.
In an attempt to help residents and the environment, the Monterey County Fair has become proactive in its efforts to collect electronic waste. The electronics collected will then be trucked away and recycled by Fresno-based Electronic Recyclers, the largest recycler of electronic waste in California and the Fair’s partner for this event. The collection is designed to provide local businesses and schools with an easy way to get rid of their old electronics.
“We’re extremely proud to be partnering with the historic Monterey County Fair for this special program,” said John S. Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers. “The Monterey County Fair is helping residents become more environmentally responsible by offering them a convenient opportunity to safely dispose of their old electronics.”
Each year in California, hundreds of thousands of computers, copiers, fax machines, printers, televisions and other electronic items are replaced by newer, more advanced equipment. It is estimated that up to 75 percent of these outdated electronics are in storage because people don't know what to do with them.

Friends of the Monterery County Fair to Host Annual Bocce Fundraiser
Monterey, CA, The Friends of the Monterey County Fair is hosting their annual Bocce Tournament fundraiser for Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. This popular event brings together companies and individuals from both the Monterey Peninsula and the Salinas Valley. This year’s event features a Bocce Tournament, Dessert Auction and Pasta Dinner served family style.
The Friends of Monterey County Fair supports many projects, including Special Friends Day at the Fair and School Tour Day. Special Friends Day at the Fair provides free Fair admission, lunch and entertainment for the mentally and physically challenged. School Tour Day brings in more than 600 second graders to the fair for a day of agricultural education.
Friends of the Monterey County Fair provide funding for much need capital improvement projects including the construction of the fence along the perimeter of the Fairgrounds.
The 2009 Bocce Tournament entry fee is $25.00 per two person team. Tickets for the dinner are $35.00 per person or $60.00 per couple and $20.00 per child 10 years and younger. The event will begin at 5:30 pm with no host cocktails, followed by Bocce Tournament and Dinner. Monterey County Fair Kicks Off National Ag Day with a “Celebrate Agriculture and National Ag Week” Breakfast Wednesday, March 18, 2009
National Ag Week is March 15-21, 2009 and the Monterey County Fair will be kicking it off with a “Celebrate Agriculture, and National Ag Week” Breakfast on Wednesday, March 18th from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
The Celebration breakfast will take place in the Monterey Room located at the Monterey County Fairgrounds, 2004 Fairground Road, Monterey, CA 93940. This breakfast is open to all who would like to come and grab a GREAT story to run during National Ag Week, or simply learn about agriculture and have a great breakfast.
The event boasts an impressive line up of guest speakers (for so early in the morning!) featuring A.G. Kawamura, Secretary of the Department of Food and Agriculture. Speakers will be highlighting the legislative issues facing agriculture today, marketing agriculture and so much more!
The panel of speakers also features: Brian Rianda, Executive Director, Ag Land Trust; TMDCreative, Marketing in a Tough Economy; Kris O’Connor, Executive Director, Central Coast Vineyard Team; and Jim Bogart of Growers Shippers Association of Central California as the emcee.

MONTEREY, CA –The Monterey County Fair steals the show in Las Vegas as the recipient of three prestigious awards from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) annual awards ceremony; held at the International fairs and Expositions Convention in December in Las Vegas.
